MKV to AVI

Hi I am using MKV to AVI Converter I have this movie which before converting to AVI from MKV its 1.07gb but its taken so far taken 5 and a 1/2 hours to convert to avi and the size is now so far 1.39gb is this normal for that size movie as I have another to convert which is 4gb so god knows how long thats going to take and what end result size will be. isnt there another converter to do this quicker

if you have a dual core cpu
mediacoder is good ..... and fast and its free
it does require you to have firefox installed
and it needs internet access for some of its menus

but from what you wrote ,it sounds like your are trying to convert the film with a multipass
encode and resizing the picture too ? this might explain the time its taking
also if your system is not very fast the it will take a long time to convert the movie

Why don't you use freeware AlltoAVI?

It's the best I've seen ...
BUT IMO, the conversion speed depends on your CPU speed/ System config...

Mind one thing, even after conversion, the Codec in the AVI would be H.264 only.
If you want to change it afterward, use something like VirtualDubMod to change it to XviD (if you have XviD installed that is...)
